Two kinds of perfect. Chase the sun with the tropical set, or lean into the snow: the full cold weather playbooks live inside the Travelers Club.
Guides are research. These picks are personal: places Tony has actually stood, in his own words.
"People ask me about Dubai more than anywhere. Standing under the Burj Khalifa at night, then riding a wooden boat across the creek in Old Dubai the next morning, that contrast is the whole story. One city, two centuries, both of them showing off."
"My advice: do the future first (the Burj, the marina, the malls that feel like cities), then give Old Dubai a slow morning. The gold souk, the spice smells, the creek. That is the part that stays with you."

Nala is a Shih Tzu with standards. These are the guide destinations that treat small dogs (and their humans) best.
Small dogs ride the Metro in a carrier, sit under cafe tables all over the city, and get welcomed in bakeries' doorways and boutiques. Paris simply assumes your dog is part of the family, because she is.
Italy might be the most dog loving country in Europe: dogs join their humans in many restaurants, shops, and even some supermarkets with special carts. Evening passeggiata with your pup is a local ritual.
Playa del Carmen and Tulum are full of pet friendly boutique hotels and beach clubs, and the shallow, calm water on protected beaches suits small dogs who like a paddle more than a swim.
Dog friendly beaches and lanai dining all over Oahu, plus a serious pet community. Plan ahead: Hawaii's rabies free status means paperwork and timelines for visiting dogs, so start with your vet months out.
On Expedia, filter hotels by "pet friendly" and check each property's fees and rules; they change by hotel. Powered by Expedia.com.
The boring stuff is what saves trips. These six habits come from hard lessons and happy landings.
Carry on whenever you can, and roll outfits around a two color palette so everything mixes. Put one full change of clothes, meds, chargers, and documents in your personal item: if a checked bag takes a detour, your first day does not.
Tell your bank where you are going, carry two cards from different networks, and always pay in the local currency when a machine asks. Keep a small stash of US dollars and local cash for markets, tips, and the taxi that only takes cash.
An eSIM data plan bought before you land beats airport SIM lines and roaming shocks. Download offline maps of your destination, save your hotel address in the local language, and screenshot every booking confirmation.
Photograph your passport, license, and cards, and keep copies in your email and with a trusted person at home. Check passport validity early: many countries require six months left beyond your travel dates.
Shift to destination time on the plane: eat and sleep on the new clock, get sunlight the morning you land, and walk instead of napping. Hydrate like it is your job and go easy on caffeine after local noon.
Travel insurance is the least fun purchase and the one people thank themselves for. Look for trip interruption, baggage, and solid medical coverage, since most US health plans do little abroad. Buy it right after your first booking so cancellation cover starts immediately.
Five airport moves that pay off on every single trip. The full hub survival guides (Atlanta, JFK, LAX, Miami, DFW, and more) live inside the Travelers Club.
Boarding pass, gate, hotel address, transfer confirmation. Airport WiFi fails exactly when you need it; screenshots never do.
Liquids bag and laptop out before the belt, shoes and belt chosen for speed, pockets emptied into your bag. You will clear in two minutes and keep your blood pressure.
Spare lithium batteries and power banks are cabin only, never checked. Charge everything at the gate and board with a full battery and downloaded entertainment.
Pick a seat with a view of the departure board and power nearby. Gate changes announce quietly; the board never lies.
Phone off airplane mode, local time set, offline map open, ride or transfer plan already made (see the protection guides below). The first 20 minutes set the trip's tone.
Two arrival day traps catch smart travelers every week at resort destinations. Read these once and you will walk past both like a local.
At many resort airports (Cancun and Los Cabos are the famous ones, with versions in Puerto Vallarta, Montego Bay, and Cartagena), the walk from customs to the exit runs a gauntlet: rows of friendly people at desks that look like official information points, hotel help desks, or transportation authorities. Many are timeshare and vacation club sellers.
The gauntlet works because it borrows authority: uniforms, desks, clipboards, your hotel's name. Knowing it exists is most of the defense. The Cancun, Mexico, Jamaica, and Colombia guides in this site carry destination specific versions of this briefing.
The most expensive taxi ride of your trip is the one you negotiate exhausted, curbside, in a currency you just met. Pre-booking your airport transfer flips the whole arrival in your favor.
Curbside haggling costs more because it is designed to: no posted fare, no record, and a traveler with luggage and no alternatives. A prebooked ride is a fixed price, a named driver, and a walk straight out the door, which is exactly how a vacation should start.
